‘Killer walked into police station to confess’ after ‘stabbing couple to death’ – leaving their four kids orphaned
A KILLER allegedly walked into a police station and confessed after he had just stabbed a couple to death – leaving their four kids orphaned, an inquest heard.
Derek Martin, 64, also known as Derek Glenn, was charged with the murders of Josh Bashford, 33, and wife Chloe, 30.
The “amazing parents” were found at their home on Lewes Road, Newhaven, East Sussex, on June 9 around 7pm.
Cops confirmed the attacker was known to the pair when they were discovered in separate rooms with fatal stab wounds.
An inquest into their deaths today heard Josh was found in an upstairs bedroom at the property inside Newhaven cemetery, while Chloe was in a ground floor room.
DCI Kimball Edey told the inquest opening that Martin walked into a Brighton station just ten minutes before the horrific discovery was made, and confessed.
She said: “Derek Martin attended Brighton police station and informed a member of staff that he had killed two people.
“He named both people and gave their address.
“He stated that this is where the killings had taken place.”
A post mortem examination days after the killings found Chloe succumbed to multiple stab wounds.
Josh was found with a single fatal wound to his anterior torso.
Sussex Police are continuing their investigation.
Assistant Coroner Laura Bradford said their investigation would be suspended while cops carry out further enquiries.
Martin appeared at Lewes Crown Court on June 14 where he was escorted out of a police van handcuffed.
His mental state at the time of the alleged murders will be assessed, the court heard.
Martin will appear in court again in August before facing trial in November.
Family members of Josh and Chloe have since set up a GoFundMe for their four kids, Brooklyn, Ava, Mila and Joshua.
Chloe’s niece Georgie Last said in an emotional statement: “My beautiful Auntie and Uncle.
“Words can not begin to explain the pain we are all feeling right now.
