In an effort to entice more creators to join Facebook, Meta is introducing new monetization features.

The company seeks to prioritize short-form videos and AI-driven recommendations as a central aspect of its primary social network.

One of the key changes is the expansion of Meta’s “performance bonus program,” which rewards creators for engagement on their Facebook posts.

While the program is currently invitation-only, Meta plans to enroll more creators and offer additional bonuses to enhance their potential earnings.

Notably, the program focuses on Facebook feed posts rather than Reels or Stories, as Meta previously reduced payouts from a bonus program linked to Reels engagement.

Meta highlights in a blog post that the most successful creators in this program regularly post a combination of text and photo content, typically on a daily basis.

Meta is also conducting tests for two new features aimed at facilitating content sharing between Instagram and Facebook.

The company is experimenting with cross-posting branded content, allowing creators to easily share sponsored posts from Instagram in Reels and Stories on Facebook.

Additionally, a separate test will enable select creators to monetize Reels that incorporate licensed musical tracks from Meta’s audio library.

According to Meta, these updates aim to assist creators in earning consistent income on Facebook.

However, the changes also appear to be designed to increase creator engagement on the platform, as Facebook faces challenges in retaining the interest of younger users who are more drawn to TikTok and Instagram.

Attracting more creators to share original content on Facebook is crucial to Meta’s strategy of transitioning its main social network towards a TikTok-like “discovery engine” in the upcoming year.

To achieve this reorientation towards recommendations, Meta must first establish a larger pool of original creator content to keep users engaged while scrolling.
