Amit Shah: ‘India now gives befitting reply’; Eye on Pakistan, Amit Shah recalls 2016 surgical strikes | India News
Shah, who was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Goa, said that with a decisive action such as surgical strike, India sent out a strong message to the entire world that no one can meddle with its borders.
In a dig at the previous UPA government, the home minister said for many years, terrorists from across the border used to infiltrate into India and cause unrest, but Delhi would do nothing.
“But when the terrorists carried out the attack in J&K (Uri) in 2016, India gave a befitting response in the form of surgical strikes for the very first time,” he said.
In an apparent reference to Pakistan, Shah said: “There was a time when only talks used to happen, but now India responds in the same language they understand.”
On September 29, 2016, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on seven terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) as a response to an attack on its base in Uri earlier that month. The Army had said its special forces inflicted “significant casualties” on terrorists waiting there to cross into Indian territory.
Shah’s remarks also come in the backdrop of a series of civilian killings taking place in Jammu & Kashmir following a resurgence in terror activities.
Security agencies have said that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba is responsible for the attacks and has been carrying them out through its shadow outfit called The Resistance Front (TRF).
