SHARJAH, December 23rd, 2020 (WAM) – In his capacity as President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has amended Decision No (1) of 2019 and issued executive rules for the re-organisation of UoS law.
Article (3) of Decision No. (1) of 2019 is replaced by Decision No. (15) of 2020.
According to the new Decision, the UoS must have a council that represents the supreme authority and exercises general supervision over its administration, and it must be composed of a sufficient number of members based on the university president’s decision.
The Amendment also stipulates that a council member’s term of office is three years, beginning on the date of the council’s first meeting, and may be extended for a similar period or periods, provided that the council continues to carry out its functions at the end of its term until a new council is formed; those whose membership term has expired may be reappointed.
The University President, as well as a number of public and other renowned scientific leaders, will be members of the Council. The President has the authority to dismiss members of the Council.
The President has the authority to designate a successor to any of its members who are absent for whatever reason in order to complete the membership for the remainder of the term.
The Decision is effective as of the date of issuing, and other competent authorities must execute its provisions in their respective fields. It will also be published in the Official Gazette. Any provision that is in conflict with the new Law will be repealed.
