Maserati’s new Grecale luxury SUV will allow drivers to get a taste of its Formula 1-inspired V6 at a $300,000 discount to the range-topping MC20 Supercar.
And hybrid versions of the new Maserati Grecale represent the brand’s most affordable machine of the modern era, undercutting the larger Levante SUV and Ghibli sedan by $35,000 and $45,000.
Pitched as a rival to the Porsche Macan compact SUV, the new Maserati Grecale will go on sale in the first quarter of 2023 priced from $109,500 plus on-road costs.
The entry-level Grecale GT brings a new level of tech to the brand including a 12.3-inch digital dash joined by a 12.3-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a premium Sonus Faber stereo.
Driver aids such as active cruise control and lane keeping assistance are also standard.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder mild hybrid turbo motor with 221kW and 450Nm, enough to hit 100km/h in 5.6 seconds.
A more powerful Grecale Modena version delivers 242kW and 450Nm for $128,000 plus on-roads.
Enthusiasts will be drawn to the new Maserati Grecale Trofeo, a car that shares the twin-turbocharged V6 heart of the $500,000 Maserati MC20 supercar.
Priced from $165,000 plus on-road costs, the high-performance Levante Trofeo looks like good value for well-heeled buyers who want 390kW, 620Nm and the ability to reach 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
All three cars combine an eight-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel-drive.
But those prices are just the beginning.
All three models can be customised extensively through Maserati’s Fuoriserie customisation program.
The petrol-powered cars also represent the beginning of a Grecale family that will deliver pure electric performance in the near future, combining a huge 105kWh battery with electric motors promising at least 365kW and 800Nm of thrust.
Though the Grecale represents the cheapest car in Maserati showrooms, it is a premium pick in the world of luxury SUVs.
The cheapest Grecale GT ($109,500 plus on-roads) is more expensive than the Porsche Macan T ($92,700), Alfa Romeo Stelvio Veloce ($79,450) and BMW X4 ($88,600).
The range-topping Grecale Trofeo ($165,000 plus on-roads) is dearer than the Porsche Macan GTS ($137,500) and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio ($153,500), but undercuts the BMW X4 M ($176,500).
