Pension age is rising but not everyone will be affected – how to check | Personal Finance | Finance

However, not everyone will be affected by the changes, as anyone who was on a pension scheme with a protected NMPA of 55 before November 4, 2021 will be able to keep this lower access age.

The Government had originally planned to allow people to transfer to a scheme with an unqualified right to a NMPA of 55 before April 5, 2023 and thus avoid the jump to 57, but decided to bring this forward.

The ability for people to transfer before 2023 had prompted concern from observers that this may cause unnecessary complexity and leave people vulnerable to potential scams.

People should be able to get in touch with their individual pension providers if they wish to find out whether their NMPA of 55 was protected, or whether they will now not be able to retrieve their retirement funds until age 57.

Members of the firefighters, police and armed forces public service schemes will also not be affected by the increase.
