Pup returns to Cheer Runners at the Boston Marathon after Fighting Tumour

A 12-year-old golden retriever canine named Spencer was cheering the runners who participated in a Marathon recently held in Boston, Massachusetts. The individuals who have participated in this marathon have fought incredible obstacles in life. The marathon date was pushed from April 19 to October 11 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to a local news agency, it was very uncertain if Spencer could join the 2021 Boston Marathon given the health issues he had. The canine had 3.5-lb of tumour removed after going through a difficult surgery. Miraculously, the canine survived this ordeal and he is doing great now.

In a video shared on Facebook, Spencer is seen holding a note in his mouth that announces his return to the marathon. The message read, “It’s been 2 ½ years and we’ve been through a lot. We’ve missed you all and we’re ready to see you again.  Welcome back runners!”

The caption further read, “They are incredibly lucky to have the canine cheer the runners once again. If anyone knows a participant from the marathon, they can share Spencer’s story to motivate them and they can also keep an eye out for him”.

The caption shared along with the video read, “Spencer was going through a very difficult phase in 2020, and many were worried that he would never be able to cheer at the Boston marathon once again”. Thankfully, the brave pup is now preparing to resume his cheering role along the marathon course.

Spencer became well-known when he first cheered for the runners at the marathon in the year 2018. Spencer was cheering the runners even on a rainy marathon day. He was holding a “Boston Strong” flag in his mouth. The 2018 marathon clip shared made the canine very popular, the canine received more love when he was seen standing in the same spot and cheering the runners again in the following years.
