Russian family deported for overstaying their visa

Three Russian nationals have been deported for overstaying their visa in Bali, an official said, in one of the latest deportation measures taken by Indonesian officials during the pandemic.

A family of three, identified as 34-year-old PK, 32-year-old SE, and their daughter KM, was deported from Indonesia on Monday, Head of the Bali office for the Law and Human Rights Ministry, Jamaruli Manihuruk, said.

They were apprehended on July 15 in Sanur, when they were found to have overstayed their permits.

“[They were] given administrative sanctions by immigration in the form of deportation and blacklisted,” Jamaruli said in a statement today.

Immigration officials, particularly in Bali, have stepped up efforts in enforcing the law, as many foreign nationals have been deported from Indonesia for violating existing rules, especially in regards to health protocols during the pandemic. Just last week, three foreign nationals were deported for violating the province’s mandatory mask rule.

One of the more recent cases in Bali also involved a Russian national, who was apprehended for evading COVID-19 quarantine despite testing positive. The 33-year-old, identified as AN, is also set for deportation after she finishes quarantine.

The immigration office in Bali previously said there are around 130,000 foreign nationals on the island.
