Washington’s National Hockey Team Trains Pup become a Service Canine

The National hockey team from Washington D.C now have an additional four-legged buddy to their list. The team members announced the news that a chocolate-coloured Labrador puppy named Biscuit will be recruited by the team.  The canine will be trained and allowed to socialize with the staff members, players, and the public little later.

The pup will be trained to become a service canine by America’s Vet Dog. America’s Vet Dog is a non-profit organization that trains pups to be service canines for free of cost. Trained service canines are then placed with veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disability.

The team announced this news recently after the team members hosted another canine named Captain in the month of June 2021 through the same program. Canine Captain completed his training with the hockey team and was then placed with the retired U.S. Marine corps Master Sergeant, Mark Gwathmey.

Due to canine Captain’s successful journey, the team is excited to partner with America’s Vet Dog organization once again. Biscuit’s socialization training program will be at least for a year and will take place at the Capitals front office where all the events and practices take place. Later, the canine will return to America’s Vet Dog campus in Smithtown, New York to start with his formal service dog training. Once Biscuit completes his training, he will be placed with a veteran or a first responder.

Over the past few years, there are other professional sports teams that have adopted four-legged furry ones for a good cause. In 2019, the National Football Team recruited a French bulldog as the first-ever emotional support canine.
